More than a century ago the Belgian Alpine club were on the look out for a place in the Swiss Alps. The young Toni, a mountaineer and experienced ski teacher, with his wife Kathy were running a typical “hut” made out of wood based on the west side of Riederalp. From then onwards the Belgian Alpine club decided that their annual summer and winter holidays would be spent at Toni and Kathy's where a real friendship developed.
Toni took his Belgian friends to the “local” mountains: Junkfraujoch, staying over on the Concordiaplatz, over the Lötschlucke in the Lötschenthal.
Time did not stand still though. Whilst Berghaus Toni grew into a full hotel, the Belgian Alpine Club grew as well and not only with new members, but also with the next generation of ski fanatics and of course Toni became their prefered ski teacher!
Again, time did not stand still and Toni felt that the time was right for him to find a successor.
It is one of those ski fanatics that now with new “friends” is keeping up the traditions of the Berghaus and bringing new life into it.
Today James and Brit are waiting for you at “Berghaus Toni” with the same traditions and values, trying to keep the old soul of the mountains alive and the “among friends” atmoshphere that Toni was so famous for.
